Insurance – Types of Optional Extras available for Thoroughbred Horses

In some instances, these optional extras are provided free of charge; in other instances the insurer may levy an additional premium.

  • Extension clause : 30 days, 90 days, 12 months (other – specify)
  • Permanent infertility due to accidents, sickness or disease (for colts and entire horses only)
  • Colic extension
  • Operations extension
  • Wobbler syndrome
  • Part ownership
  • Agreed value
  • Automatic additions
  • Full annual premium if loss - waiver
  • For international transits – beserk extension
  • For unborn/prospective foals – waiver of visual proof of loss
  • For unborn/prospective foals – waiver of multiple pregnancy (twins)
  • Surgical clause extension – this is where the Mortality Policy is extended to cover surgical procedures performed to save the life of an insured animal. This extension provides cover for the charges levied by a license veterinarian necessitated to save the life of the insured animal.
