Aeronautical was has having its fourth career start and scored in emphatic fashion, winning by 3.50 lengths without being fully extended. In what is becoming his customary way of racing, Aeronautical settled a clear last before peeling out at the top of the straight and rounded up the field in a matter of strides, to power down the centre of the track to win effortlessly and impressively. In the process, Aeronautical posted remarkable sectional times: 600 to 400 metres: 11.88 seconds (ninth and last at both markers); 400 to 200 metres : From last to first in a sensational 11.29 seconds; Last 200 metres : 11.83 seconds despite being eased down. Lionel Cohen has only been training horses for a year in Australia, having been granted his licence in August 2010. To deliver a stakes winner in such a relatively short time is a great achievement. Lionel is a dedicated and master horseman and his astute knowledge of breeding and eye for a horse led him to buy Aeronautical at the 2010 Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale for AUD100,000, undoubtedly a bargain price. Aeronautical’s current earnings stand at over AUD120,000. Aeronautical is by Encosta De Lago from the Fusaichi Pegasus mare, Moon River. Moon River is from the mare, Stella Cadente, which won the Group 1 Australia Stakes among her 5 career wins, so the family is accustomed to stakes success. Aeronautical will now be aimed at the Group 1 Golden Rose to be run over 1400 metres at Rosehill on 10 September 2011. Lionel has not yet decided whether to race Aeronautical again before the AUD 1 million event in 5 weeks’ time.
