Widely heralded as the most sought after prize in South African racing, the race comes at the time in the season when 3 year olds are physically strong enough to compete against the older horses (3 year olds have won 4 of the past 10 runnings of the race). Big City Life, a colt by Casey Tibbs, became the fifth three year old winner of the race in past 11 runnings when he defeated the consistent three year old filly, Zirconeum. In winning, Big City Life provided his sire, Casey Tibbs, with his biggest success to date in South Africa. Casey Tibbs is an Irish Bred son of Sadlers Wells out of the mare Fleur Royale, the family of Mosszao, Autumn Lodge and Grandly, which ran fourth to Special Harmony in the Group 1 Crown Oaks of 2003. Big City Life is the fourth produce of mare, Dollar Crisis, whose granddam Alamosa produced top sprinter and sire Hard Up. Big City Life is trained by Glenn Kotzen and was ridden by Greg Cheyne. The colt sat just off the speed before striking the front some 300 metres from the finish and won by 0.75 lengths from Zirconeum in second with Forest Path a further 1.25 lengths back in third. The favourite, top weight and South African idol, Pocket Power, finished a creditable fifth, beaten only 2.85 lengths Aeronautical provides Lionel Cohen with first stakes success as a trainer Australian racehorse success around the globe Two from Two in South Africa for Patinack Farm graduates Insurance for Life Saving Surgery – underwriters meet demand First Winner for Lionel Cohen Green Birdie boost for Onemorenomore and Casino Prince Important Notice - Possible Refund of Insurance Stamp Duty Australian bred 2 year old wins Gr 1 in South Africa Big City Life wins Gr1 Durban July Foaling Season - time to insure your Newborn Foal Warm White Night - a red hot performance Australian mare wins Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic E-Quine Insurance Services launches |
